Annie Perkins is a middle school/high school math teacher in Minneapolis, MN and she has been sharing a daily math art challenge every day since the governor’s made the call for everyone to stay at home. As I write this, we are going on Day 19.

For each day’s challenge, Annie shares an art project. She keeps the instructions simple and there are no tools necessary (beyond a pencil, paper, sometimes a die, sometimes a ruler). And each of them is a door into all kinds of mathematical questions and exploration.

Some of the challenges have been math art that we have explored at CAMI – Celtic Knots (Day 18), Mondrian Puzzles (Day 16), Dragons (Day 12).

There are so many great ones – Day 5 (Probability Designs) and Day 14 (Hitomezashi stitching) have become daily rituals in my household.

You can find instructions and videos for each project on her website, linked above. She also shares them on Twitter at @anniek_p. You can see what others have done with her challenges using the hashtag #MathArtChallenge

They are great for kids and grown-up alike. Enjoy!
